UK searches for ‘bingo’ hit highest point ever – These cities are most obsessed

The study found that Wrexham claims the title of the UK’s most bingo-obsessed city. On average, this Welsh city has around 12,133 monthly searches, which when divided across between its population, equates to 18,469 searches per 100,000 citizens. This is the same as almost one in every five people looking to play online bingo each month, throughout the city.

Coming in second place is Kingston Upon Hull, averaging 45,677 monthly searches. In relation to the city’s population, this represents approximately 17,491 searches per 100,000 citizens, or about one in every six people, reflecting the city’s substantial fondness for bingo.

Securing third place is Blackpool, which has 21,453 monthly Google searches for bingo, translating to 15,220 searches per 100,000 people. The city’s love for bingo is reflected in the upcoming opening of a £5 million bingo hall in central Blackpool, which is estimated to open between late June to early July.

Liverpool takes fourth place. The city’s 66,222 Google searches mean that for every 100,000 people living there, around 13,668 are searching for bingo each month. Beyond the city’s online interest, Liverpool is home to a number of venues offering a blend of bingo, dance, and entertainment.

The first Scottish city to make the list, Dundee comes in fifth with 19,994 monthly searches dedicated to bingo on average, or 13,485 searches per 100,000 people. Dundee’s affection for the game might stem from the city’s rich cultural heritage and tight-knit community spirit, where games like bingo have long held a social significance.

Newcastle is in sixth place with around 35,718 Google searches for bingo each month, which equates to around 11,975 searches for every 100,000 residents. Sunderland claims the seventh spot with 31,943 Google searches, or 11,649 searches per 100,000 people.

Blackburn placed eighth and Lincoln came ninth with 10,358 and 10,276 searches each month per 100,000 residents respectively. Rounding out the top ten is Glasgow, where the city sees approximately 10,138 searches per 100,000 residents.

Sue Dawson, Head of Content at BNBS, commented:

“Interestingly, the data shows that this year has observed the highest search interest for the term ‘bingo’ since records began. While bingo was once touted as a pastime reserved for the older generation, in recent years it seems to have garnered broader appeal, perhaps due to the ease in which it can be accessed through online sites.”
