World Cup London legends: Kane in joint first for assists and Saka ranking in top 5 player performance so far… but who will come out on top?
A study by Europe’s biggest retailer of sports and fitness, Sports Direct has revealed the World Cup superheroes, based on their performance in the tournament so far.
Coming in at first place is Portugal’s Bruno Fernandes, followed by global superstars Mbappe and Messi.
The data looks at their overall player rating score, which considers metrics such as minutes played, goals, assists, pass success percentage and red and yellow cards.
Sports Direct also analysed player shirt numbers from the last two World Cup tournaments, using the same metrics, to understand which football shirt numbers were historically the best performing.
Interestingly, number 10 came out on top, and based on this year’s player performances, the number is living up to its expectations.
Number 22 was previously occupied by Spain’s Isco, but this year, rising star Jude Bellingham is making the number famous again and it’s no surprise that he’s currently the seventh best performing player of the tournament.
The data from previous years found that number 1 was the third best shirt number, however only one goalkeeper has made the top 10 list as yet.
Surprisingly, number 9 didn’t perform as well as expected looking at the historical data, despite being considered a popular number amongst fans and players. However, British favourite Harry Kane has excelled this year when it comes to assists, tying with leader Fernandes at three assists each this year.
