35% OF BRITS WOULD CANCEL A DATE IF THEY DIDN’T LIKE THEIR INTERIOR STYLE

· New research has revealed that Brits are quick to judge people on the way their house is decorated, but they stay quiet about it

· Nearly half of Brits said they thought differently about someone after seeing the inside of their house

· Nearly a fifth said they would lie and tell a new partner they did like their home’s interior, when they really didn’t

· More than a third said they would cancel a date if they didn’t like the look of the person’s interior decorations

How many times have you walked into someone’s house, didn’t like the look of what you saw, didn’t say anything about it and just went off them a little bit? If you did, then you’re not alone. New research has revealed that we’re quick to judge friends, family, and new partners on the way they’ve decorated their home, but we stay quiet about it. Nearly half (39%) said they thought differently about someone after seeing the inside of their home, and 80% said they stayed quiet about another person’s attempts at interior decoration, even though they didn’t like it. Furthermore, 61% said they had been to someone’s home and not liked it at all.

The study – which was commissioned by Graham and Brown – also found that a fifth of Brits would lie to a new partner and tell them they liked their home’s interior, when they really didn’t. 35% said they would even cancel a date with someone if they thought their interior décor was awful and 42% of people who had been on dating apps said they would be less inclined to go on a date with someone if they disliked their interior choices.

Brits, it seems, take interior design seriously. 75% said the design of their own home was very important, and 63% said it was important to them because it made them feel happier. And there’s a pecking order when it comes to some of the biggest no-nos in the way we decorate our homes. Top of the list is clashing patterns (33%) followed by badly painted walls (30%), shabby walls (28%), bad choice of wallpaper (27%) and loud colours (25%).
