Scarlett Moffatt launches Go Ahead’s National Snaccident Hotline to help the nation go easy on themselves
Working from home is causing a surge in ‘snaccidents’, derailing the January diet plans of up 90% of Brits, according to a study from Go Ahead.
Almost half of Brits (47%) said they’re snacking more at home than they did in the office, with boredom (47%) the most common reason for doing so. The study also found that 90% of healthy eating resolutions are expected to have been broken by the last week of January.
To keep the nation motivated as lockdown continues, Go Ahead has teamed up with TV personality, Scarlett Moffatt, to launch the National Snaccident Hotline, providing uplifting messages on how to bounce back from a ‘non-fault snaccident’. The free phone line will be open all week to help those who’ve fallen off the wagon, encouraging the nation in 2021 to go easy on themselves by making better snacking choices with Go Ahead’s new, 97 calorie Fruity Cake Bites.
Healthy low calorie snacking experts Go Ahead found that the average Brit takes just 7.5 minutes from craving to giving in to a snack. Forty-seven per cent of Brits said they reach for treats due to boredom and 41 per cent when they crave something sweet. Almost a third (31 per cent) are most tempted when having a cup of tea, and 27 per cent said they snack due to stress. On top of this, over a third (38 per cent) of Brits confess to having a dedicated snack cupboard at home.
A study of 2,000 adults commissioned by Go Ahead, found more than 38 million Brits admitted they have been tempted when it comes to snacks, with almost two fifths (79 per cent) saying they have said ‘yes’ when offered an unhealthy snack, despite their urge to decline.
The average Brit reaches for nibbles four times a day – with crisps and chocolate offering the most temptation. Almost four in 10 (39 per cent) simply can’t say ‘no’ to an edible treat, with the most snaccidents likely to happen at 3pm and almost one fifth (19 per cent) more likely to reach for an unhealthy snack on a weekday than the weekend. Snacking also continues into the night, with 6 per cent admitting to still be nibbling after 10pm.
