Cane Hill development shortlisted in Housing Design Awards

Cane Hill Park in Coulsdon, an exciting new homes development by Barratt David Wilson Homes, has been shortlisted in the prestigious Housing Design Awards 2021 thanks to its innovative design by architects HTA Design LLP. The outstanding development sits on the former Cane Hill Hospital site, and has already won several other national accolades since it launched in five years ago.

The Housing Design Awards were launched in 1948 in a bid to encourage quality homes during the rebuild of post-war Britain. The initiative was part of the creation of the NHS, the aim being free health care and healthier homes. Cane Hill Park was shortlisted thanks to its high quality green spaces, provision of affordable housing and high design standards.

Natalie Perry, Sales and Marketing Director for David Wilson Homes, comments: “Cane Hill Park is a fantastic example of how public sector land can be redeveloped to provide quality new homes to meet local demand, and we are pleased that the development has been recognised in this year’s Housing Design Awards thanks to the design from HTA Design LLP. This is particularly poignant given Cane Hill Park’s history and links with the NHS.”

Simon Toplis at HTA Design LLP, comments: “We are thrilled that Cane Hill Park has been recognised in this year’s Housing Design Awards. The development has transformed the previously unused former NHS site into quality housing that has directly benefitted the local community. The site is characterised by the high-quality green spaces based around existing trees, landscape features and fronted by new homes, creating a model for similar green belt sites in or near town centre locations.”
