CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL POITÍN DAY AT THE SUN TAVERN
As the owners of the world’s largest poitín collection, on Wednesday 18th November, The Sun Tavern will be celebrating with an exclusive poitín cocktail menu in collaboration with Frank Carr’s Irish Poitín. The cocktails will show the liquid’s versatility, are priced at just £6 and will be available every Wednesday in November in case prior plans get in the way of joining on the 18th.
They will also host a free poitín tasting, with the opportunity to learn all about the spirit’s illicit past (legalised as recently as 1997) and understand the nuances of its vast flavour spectrum.
Poitín cocktails will include Belfast Coffee, a boozy pick me up with Frank Carr’s Irish Poitín, cold brew coffee, cream, demerara, and nutmeg. The Sun Tavern’s signature Beer and a Bump combines Umbrella London rhubarb cider with a shot of poitín.
The Sun Tavern holds the largest collection of poitín in the world, with around 50 different poitíns from 21 distilleries across the four provinces of Ireland. The team conceived the idea of International Poitín Day as an annual celebration of the Irish spirit’s illicit past and education on how it can be used in modern cocktails.
“Once outlawed and overlooked, Poitín is enjoying a resurgence as an alternative to more familiar spirits, thanks to its distinctive flavours, rich heritage and versatility behind the bar. Now, as the spirit continues to find its place in London’s cocktail scene, we are once again raising a glass to the original Irish rebel with our annual celebration of International Poitín Day.” Andy Kerr, Founder of The Umbrella Project.
The party starts at 6pm and rounds off at midnight, with free entry all night.
