SCHOOL PUPILS BURY MEMORIES OF THE PANDEMIC WITH CAMBRIDGESHIRE HOMEBUILDER

Pupils in Cambridgeshire have left a lasting legacy at Barratt Homes’ Trumpington Meadows development as they buried a COVID-19 time capsule onsite.

Whilst the pandemic has been a difficult time for many people, the homebuilder took the opportunity to invite 30 Year 4 children from Trumpington Meadows Primary School to make their mark and bury their memories of the past 18 months at the new homes community on Hauxton Road.

With the help of Long Creations, Barratt Homes distributed booklets for the pupils to complete ahead of the burial, which detailed information about themselves, how they’ve felt during the pandemic and what they did to stay in touch with their community.

To be opened in 2071 – 50 years from now – the time capsule has given the children a chance to be part of history and they have helped the homebuilder to leave a legacy for the next generation at Trumpington Meadows.

Ollie Monro, Assistant Headteacher at Trumpington Meadows Primary School, said: “The Year 4s have been able to reflect upon the extraordinary circumstances of the past 18 months and have enjoyed being a part of making history, as well as learning about it in class. Hopefully the work they have put in the time capsule will be of interest to the Trumpington Meadows students in 2071.”

Also included within the booklets completed by the pupils were opportunities to leave the handprints of their families and add photos, whilst encouraging them to note how they overcame a range of challenges such as home schooling.

Whilst adding their booklets and photos to the time capsule, a bottle of hand sanitiser, a lateral flow test and a face mask were also buried – two items which may be a distant memory for those digging up the capsule in 50 years’ time.
