Autumn Budget- “Women face a set of unique challenges”
The Autumn Budget is just two weeks away and is likely to introduce policies that affect the whole spectrum of the UK population- but what specifically will it mean for women?
When it comes to money, women face a set of unique challenges that need to be addressed at the highest levels.
On current trends, it will take more than 200 years to close the gender pay gap, women often have fluctuating income, as result of part time work or taking time off from their careers to raise children and are more likely than men to push the pause button on their careers in order to care for sick or elderly relatives.
However, it’s unlikely that women and their specific financial challenges will feature high on the Chancellor’s agenda.
Maike Currie, Investment Director at Fidelity International has given some thought on the issues she would like to see tackled by the Chancellor come Monday 29th. Tackling the cost of childcare, closing the gender pension and pay gaps and creating a care system to better support carers are all steps that could be taken to help women better secure their financial futures.
