A-Level Results – why NMITE is the clever choice

With new reports stating that students simply wont be achieving the grades due to ‘learning being disproportionately damaged during the pandemic’, as stated by The Observer we wanted to share NMITE as a positive voice for students on results day for those wanting to study engineering but not achieving the grades.

Why NMITE:

NMITE, The New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering, based in Hereford, set itself up as a disruptor for the higher education sector, working with potential pupils and the organisations they’d want to work with to create a new way into higher education and a career in engineering.

NMITE’s teaching, or more accurately learning to be an engineer, concentrates on the core engineering concepts and content as well as ethics and sustainability delivered through a series of Sprints while NMITE’s Toolboxes equip learners with skills like drawing, teamworking, programming, communication, certainty, management and business, creativity and design. Working in small teams, similar to the real workplace, engineering and toolbox skills are used to work on substantial community-based challenges with local organisations.

What makes NMITE different:

Announced in May, NMITE launched a fast-track BEng programme and will be placing an emphasis on finding applicants with individuality coupled with passion, grit, determination, creativity, and curiosity.
BEng students will not be required to have A level Physics or Maths as these subjects will be taught as part of the course. Students will require 112 UCAS points with GCSE Maths and English Grade 6 or above making the course accessible to many more students. Students can also apply directly to NMITE and there is a dedicated team ready to discuss any questions students may have.

NMITE Voices:

Abu-Huraira Ishfaq who joined NMITE in 2021 and is the student ambassador, feels he took a leap of faith joining NMITE.
“I’d never thought about engineering and was looking at clinical psychology as a degree. But I heard the founders speaking at an event and looked at this as something that was a little different. I’m not a natural risk taker, but I trusted the application process as it’s different to the UCAS route and helped me to find out more about the course and the school.”

For Daniel James and Natasha Tait the practical hands-on nature of classes at NMITE appealed as they allow students to use their creativity to make something that works and gives them the confidence to get up and present their work to their peers and contemporaries.

James Newby, NMITE’s COO comments, “With bursaries for new students of up to £5,000, NMITE is a place to consider for anyone considering a creative future without putting pressure on to have made all the right steps before they turn 18. Students can apply directly to NMITE without having to go through the UCAS clearing process. We’re excited to see what futures our students are creating for themselves.”
