Housebuilder’s golf day raises over £13,000 for cancer charity

A corporate golf day hosted by Dartford-based housebuilder Bellway Thames Gateway raised £13,437.45 for Cancer Research UK.
Teams made up of Bellway staff, sub-contractors and friends gathered for the event at Westerham Golf Club in Westerham, Kent.
The amount raised on the day by the company’s Thames Gateway division was matched by Bellway Group, resulting in the total donation of over £13,000 to the national cancer charity.
Senior members of the Bellway team volunteered to help out at the event, including Managing Director Tom Sherriff and Sales Director Emma Hamlett who were on hand to make sure the day went smoothly.
After a breakfast at 9.15am, the tournament was played with a two-tee start. Competitors then enjoyed a three-course dinner and a charity raffle and auction.
Bellway has been supporting Cancer Research UK for the past six years and is aiming to raise £3 million nationally for the charity by 2023. It has so far raised £2.56 million.
Tom Sherriff, Managing Director of Bellway Thames Gateway, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended the charity golf event, whether they were playing or assisting in ensuring the day went with a swing. The day was a tremendous success.
“Everyone who took part enjoyed the social aspect of the day out but also welcomed the opportunity to challenge themselves on the fabulous course at Westerham Golf Club. As a division we see these events as a valuable way to get the team and our sub-contractors together in an informal setting.
“Here at Bellway we are very proud of our ongoing close relationship with Cancer Research UK and are delighted to be able to make a sizeable donation to the charity to enable it to carry on with its invaluable work in the fight against cancer. Such events are a great way to have some fun and to raise money for a fantastic cause at the same time.”
Cancer Research UK is a registered charity dedicated to beating cancer through research and raising awareness, funding scientists, doctors and nurses working on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
