POLL: 42% SAY LADY SUSAN HUSSEY SHOULD BE GIVEN HER JOB BACK
FORTY-TWO percent of people have told a poll that Lady Susan Hussey should be allowed to return to work.
The findings of People Polling poll* for GB News come days after Prince Harry defended the Queen’s former Lady In Waiting.
And Harry’s backing for Lady Hussey, who resigned after she asked a black British charity boss where she was “really” from, appears to be matched by many across the country.
When asked about whether she should now be allowed to return to her work, 42% of the public say that she should be allowed to return. Twenty-four percent say that she should not be allowed to return to her work, 28% said they didn’t know and 6% preferred not to say
Among 65+ year olds, 62% are in favour of Lady Hussey being allowed to return to her work, whereas only 21% of 18–24-year-olds were in favour of a return for Lady Hussey, who has since met with the charity boss to personally apologise.
The poll also revealed the public mainly have negative things to say about Prince Harry, whose memoir Spare this week became the fastest selling nonfiction book of all time.
When asked about what word or phrase first comes to mind when thinking about Prince Harry, the public overwhelmingly have negative things to say. Among the top words used to describe Harry were “idiot”, “spoilt”, “brat”, and “stupid”.
(Note to editors: the full word cloud is below).
The poll indicated only a third of Brits are currently “proud” of the Royal Family, indicating Spare may be having an impact on the reputation of The Firm.
When asked about whether people agree or disagree that they are proud of the Royal Family, 34% said that they were proud and 31% disagreed. Thirty four percent of the public neither agree nor disagree, didn’t know or preferred not to say. Sixty three percent of Conservative voters agree that they are proud of the Royal Family, whereas only 14% of Labour voters are proud of the Royal Family. Among 18–24-year-olds, only 10% agree that they are proud of the Royal Family, whereas 59% of 65+ year olds agree that they are proud of the Royal Family.
Commenting political expert, Professor Matt Goodwin said: “A plurality of voters are clearly sick and tired of so-called “cancel culture”, wanting those who publicly apologise after errors of judgement, such as Lady Hussey, to be able to get on with and rebuild their lives. Only a minority of voters think Lady Hussey should remain without her job. Clearly, it is time to rethink cancel culture and move toward a culture that actually leaves room for the possibility of forgiveness.
When it comes to Prince Harry, while his book might be selling like hot cakes his public image has taken a battering. When we ask the British people to give us one word that best describes the young Prince, the word at the top of the list is “idiot” followed by “sad”, “ginger”, “t**t” and “brat”. His publisher might be happy, but I suspect his public relations team won’t be happy at all. To me, this brand looks like it is heading in only one direction: south.”
