Paul ‘Chuckle’ Elliott recalls how his brother kept his cancer diagnosis secret from him

CHUCKLE Brother Paul Elliott has revealed how his brother Barry kept his cancer diagnosis secret from him up until the day he was unable to get out of bed.

In an interview with Nigel Farage on GB News, Paul said: “It was awful. It really was, because he hadn’t told me that he’d got cancer. He was telling me he got sciatica.

“I kept saying, ‘it seems unusual, you’ve got it in both legs’. I used to have had it myself and it’s agony, that’s one leg but not both, and he’d say, ‘well, that’s what the doctor tells me’.

“And he was just keeping it from me that he’d got lung cancer.”

Paul recalled: “We were going to do a sketch in London for Sports Relief. The taxi picked me up, we went to pick up Barry to take him to the station to go down to London, and he struggled to get out the house.

“I was watching from the taxi and he was trying to lift his feet over the step. His wife grabbed him and got him across to the car. And he got in and said ‘I’m having a lot of pain today in the legs’.

“As we were going to the station I said we can’t really go into this sketch for Sports Relief like this…so I sent him home and phoned the manager and said, ‘tell them we can’t do it’.

“The next day, we’ve got a farmhouse out in France and we went over there, I got a phone call from his wife saying he can’t get out of bed. His legs are totally devastated.”

He added: “That’s when I said, ‘put him on the phone’ and I spoke to him, and that’s when he said.

“He always said he wanted to work until he dropped drop dead on stage. His thing was always entertaining, making people laugh.”
