Meet the world’s ultimate Apple fan – a single dad from Kansas who admits he’s ‘a little obsessed.’

Software engineer David Freeman won a global contest to celebrate the world’s biggest fans of the Apple brand, organized by trade-in site SellCell.com ahead of this month’s iPhone 15 launch.

The lifelong superfan owns more than 100 Apple products and takes ‘religious holidays’ from work so he can watch launches and company announcements. Every room inside his home is painted in the bright colors of an early Apple logo.

As a child, he used to write fan mail to Apple founder Steve Jobs and had a framed photograph of a Macbook Pro on his bedroom wall.

He even named his daughter Lisa as an homage to Steve Jobs, who called his own daughter, and an early computer, by the same name.

One of his most prized possessions is a piece of Steve Jobs’s iconic black sweater along with a pair of glasses cut by the Apple founder’s optician.

But the 29-year-old is currently single and admits it is hard to find a partner who is content to coming second to Apple in his life.

David triumphed over more than a thousand other entrants to win SellCell’s contest to find the World’s Ultimate Apple Superfan.

He had to answer a range of questions all about the brand’s history and products from down the years – with his answers timed against the clock.

David got every question right in a faster time than anyone else to win the title and the prize of a new Apple Watch.

David, from Leavenworth, Kansas, said: “It is completely surreal. I never expected to win when I entered this contest. I know I’m a huge fan, but I assumed there were other people out there who were even bigger fans than me. Now that I see everything written down, though it does start to seem like maybe I’m just a little obsessed.

“I’m extremely proud and humbled to bring the title to Apple’s home country. A lifetime of being called an “Apple Sheep” has finally paid off.

“Apple is so much more than just a company to me. It is a community and an ecosystem that touches so many aspects of my life. Every time Tim Cook steps out on stage to unveil a new product feels like Christmas morning.

“Even my coworkers know that I take Apple Keynote days off as a “Religious Holiday” so I can take all the time I need to fully appreciate everything that was announced and quickly order any new products.”

He said his family didn’t totally understand his Apple obsession but most of his friends were also Apple fans.

He said: “I have a seven-year-old daughter named Elizabeth (or Lisa for short) – Steve Jobs’ daughter’s name and the name of the first computer Apple released with a graphical user interface. But I’m currently single – it’s hard finding a partner who is okay with coming in second to Apple.

“All the friends I have made over the years are one of the best parts about being an Apple fan. Whether it is camping out overnight for the latest iPhone, attending conventions, or just participating in forum discussions, there are so many opportunities to find friends that share my passion.

“One of my best friends lives on the opposite side of the world, in Perth, Australia. We met on the Apple subreddit several years ago and went on to start “The Blue Bubble Podcast” which ran for over five and a half years before we had to take a break earlier this year due to family obligations. It was through that podcast that I was able to further connect with several people in the tech space that I once admired from afar and now have the privilege of calling friends.

David said he was excited to receive his Apple Watch prize. He added: “You’d think a person who already owns over 100 different Apple products couldn’t possibly be excited to get another one, but I always am. Not only as something practical that I will get use out of but also for what it symbolizes. It will be an honor to wear it and I’ll surely brag about it to anyone I can get to listen.”

Sarah McConomy, COO of SellCell said: “Our contest received more than a thousand entrants proving just how many fans Apple has.

“David is a worthy winner who has had a lifelong love of everything Apple. We hope he enjoys his status as the world’s biggest Apple superfan.”
