RYLAN WOULD GET RID OF ‘EVERY SINGLE’ BRITISH POLITICAL PARTY: ‘IT’S BETTER IF WE WORK TOGETHER’
Rylan Clark, the national treasure TV presenter and host of the PinkNews Awards 2023, shared his unique and tongue-and-cheek vision for British politics and expressed his unwavering support for the LGBTQ+ community during an exclusive interview with PinkNews on Wednesday 18th October 2023.
Rylan unveiled a unique vision for British politics, calling for a shift towards a political party-free democracy. Speaking to PinkNews, Rylan said, “First thing that I’d enact is partyless politics. We’d get rid of Labour, we’d get rid of Conservatives, we’d get rid of every single party. We’d have a Prime Minister that’s voted for – which is obviously me – and then MPs are selected from any party. Out of all them MPs, they come into Parliament, and everyone can have it out, because it’s better if we work together.”
Rylan also addressed the increasingly worrying climate to be LGBTQ+ in Britain. Recent data from the Home Office has revealed an 11 percent increase in transphobic hate crimes, totaling 4,732 incidents in the year 2022-2023. When asked about the biggest threat to the LGBTQ+ community today, Rylan responded, “shallow-minded individuals.” He added, “Genuinely, I think that is the biggest threat the community has got today. It’s always been that way, but we’ll keep carrying on, and they can go f**k themselves.”
Despite rising anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, Rylan offered words of hope, emphasising the resilience of younger generations. He remarked, “The thing bringing me the most hope about the community is looking at 17, 18, 19-year-olds in this community not being frightened to be who they wanna be and live their life how they wanna do it. I’m 35 next week, which isn’t exactly old in the grand scheme of life, but some of the confidence I see in the younger generation is beautiful to see. Good luck to them; I hope they have an easier time than we all did.”
Rylan’s visionary ideas for a party-free democracy and his support for the LGBTQ+ community have sparked lively discussions and resonated with high-profile attendees across politics, culture, activism and business at the PinkNews Awards 2023.
