FAMILY PUB BRAND OFFERS GRANDPARENTS FREE CARVERY TO TACKLE LONELINESS

Carvery and cake experts Farmhouse Inns has launched its new ‘Grand Day Out’ initiative, offering grandparents and elderly relatives a free carvery throughout November.

To claim the free meal for your grandparent or elderly loved one, you just need to purchase any kid’s meal or junior carvery and say the codeword ‘A Grand Day Out’ at the till.

This offer is available every Tuesday throughout November across all Farmhouse Inns pubs in the UK.

The initiative has been launched after new national research revealed the extent to which Britain’s older generation feel isolated, with a view of uniting families around the dinner table to enjoy a hearty carvery.

The study found that nearly half (43%) of Brits aged 65 and over experience feelings of loneliness up to five times a week, with almost a quarter (24%) admitting they’ve gone multiple days without seeing anyone within the last year.

When it comes to tackling loneliness and isolation, nearly half of the nation (46%) believes the pub is a great place to visit.

Furthermore, two thirds of Brits (66%) believe that a traditional Sunday roast helps to bring people together, with the older generation in particular being partial to a regular roast dinner.

Almost three in ten (29%) of those aged 65 and over have a roast dinner once a week, more so than any other generation and almost double (15%) their younger counterparts aged 25-34.

It is in evenings when grandparents feel most isolated, with more than half (57%) stating this time of the day is when they feel lonely the most. Notably, almost a third (32%) of older respondents admit to rarely or never being invited to social occasions by family or friends.

Feeling like they’re less relevant to the people around them is the primary reason those aged 65 and over feel lonely, with more than half (54%) admitting to thinking this.

Farmhouse Inns has partnered with actor, author and well-known grandma Sherrie Hewson, who believes time spent socialising with family and friends is the most valued time to savour for anyone.

Sherrie said: “As a proud grandma, there is literally nothing I love doing more than spending time with my grandchildren. The energy they have is infectious and making memories with them is something I cherish more than anything.

“It’s clear that loneliness and isolation affects a lot of grandparents and elderly people and what Farmhouse Inns’ is offering families to help tackle this is wonderful.

“I’d encourage all families to take their grandparents or elderly loved one to their nearest Farmhouse Inns pub this month to enjoy each other’s company over a carvery covered in gravy, what could be better?”

Hannah Davison, Marketing Manager at Farmhouse Inns, said: “Feelings of loneliness and isolation are an issue that affect a lot of us, particularly our grandparents and older loved ones during the colder and darker months.

“At Farmhouse Inns, we believe nothing brings people together more than a delicious carvery enjoyed with family and friends in a pub and we’ve launched a ‘Grand Day Out’ to ensure our eldest family members can do just that.

“We hope that families around the country take this opportunity to treat their grandparents with a carvery plate filled to the brim on us.”
