89% of Brits Say Travel Makes Them Happier
A new survey to coincide with World Mental Health Day by group travel brand WeRoad has highlighted how travel can be a powerful tool to support mental wellbeing. With data taken from one thousand UK customers aged 25-49, almost nine in ten (89%) said that travelling makes them feel happier and helps them disconnect from everyday stress.
The findings shed light on the emotional impact of travel, showing that a simple getaway can offer an important mental reset and a valuable opportunity for self-care.
When asked which mental health challenges travel would best “treat,” 40% of respondents said it helps them break free from routine and boredom, while 29% pointed to its power in easing stress and anxiety. Another 18% said travel combats feelings of loneliness, and 12% found it revives their motivation.
When it comes to disconnecting from everyday life, connection and discovery go hand in hand. Nearly half (49%) of respondents said they prefer joining a new group and making new friends, compared to 30% who favour traveling with friends, and 21% who prefer travelling alone.
The findings suggest that for many, travel offers not only a mental escape but also a powerful opportunity for social connection and personal growth.
As more people recognize the link between travel and mental health, the data reinforces a growing cultural shift: travel isn’t just about sightseeing — it’s about wellbeing and renewal.
Justyna Chlopecka, UK Marketing Manager at WeRoad, said: “Travel gives people a chance to reset, reconnect, and reimagine their lives. It’s one of the most accessible and enjoyable ways to care for your mental health.”
