ALFI GOES ALLA PASTA THIS OCTOBER WITH A WHISTLE-STOP TOUR OF ITALY
This October, ALFI is going all out for pasta. The independent Italian restaurant in the heart of Spitalfields, already known for its award-winning Neapolitan pizza and creative programme of hands-on workshops, is turning its attention to another Italian staple: pasta, pasta and more pasta.
To celebrate Pasta Month this October and National Pasta Day on Saturday 17 October, ALFI is inviting Londoners to roll up their sleeves, grab a glass of prosecco and join its team for a whistle-stop tour around Italy, one pasta shape at a time.
And because la vita è troppo breve to stick to one pasta, ALFI has launched its Pasta Passport: one ticket giving pasta lovers access to all five classes throughout October, travelling from Emilia-Romagna to Tuscany, Sicily, Amalfi and finally Capri, with many different pasta shapes to master at every stop.
Five destinations. Nine pasta shapes. One very delicious passport.
THE PASTA MONTH ITINERARY
The grand tour takes pasta lovers from Emilia-Romagna to Capri, with traditional pasta shapes to discover at each stop, all made by hand with guidance from the ALFI team.
3 October | Emilia-Romagna | 3–5pm: Tagliatelle & Strozzapreti
The first stop is Emilia-Romagna, Italy’s pasta heartland, where guests will learn to make handmade tagliatelle and strozzapreti from scratch. £48pp
11 October | Tuscany | 1–3pm: Pici & Maltagliati
Next stop, Tuscany, for two wonderfully rustic pasta shapes: hand-rolled pici and irregular, torn maltagliati. £48pp
17 October | Sicily | 3–5pm: Busiate & Casarecce
National Pasta Day gets a proper Italian celebration as ALFI heads to Sicily to make two traditional shapes: busiate and casarecce. £48pp
23 October | Amalfi | 7–9pm: Maccheroni al Ferretto
A trip to the Amalfi coast, where guests will learn to shape maccheroni al ferretto by hand, using a traditional thin rod to create its distinctive hollow centre. £48pp
31 October | Capri | 3–5pm: Lemon & Ricotta Ravioli
The final stop is Capri, with delicate ravioli filled with lemon and ricotta, inspired by the island’s famous citrus groves and bright Mediterranean flavours. £48pp
Che bello.
Every two-hour workshop includes a welcome glass of Prosecco, all ingredients and equipment, expert guidance and the chance to master classic pasta shapes from scratch. Guests then get to take home their creations to enjoy and recreate at home, time and time again.
FROM LA CUCINA TO YOUR KITCHEN
For ALFI’s co-founders, the popularity of its workshops has made pasta a natural focus for October.
“Our workshops have become such a lovely part of what we do at ALFI, and the pasta classes in particular have proved incredibly popular. There’s something about making pasta by hand that people really connect with. It’s a skill you can take home and do again and again, whether you’re cooking for family, friends or just yourself.
“So this October we thought, why stop at one pasta class? We wanted to take people on a little whistle-stop tour around Italy and introduce them to some of the incredible pasta shapes and traditions from different regions. The Pasta Passport felt like the perfect way to do it – a chance to travel around Italy without leaving Spitalfields.”
– Ben & Alex, Co-Founders, ALFI
And there’s no need to be a pasta pro. The classes are designed for beginners and experienced cooks alike. Guests simply need to bring themselves, an appetite and a willingness to get their hands a little floury.
Piano piano – little by little – by the end of the month, they’ll have picked up a whole new repertoire of pasta-making skills.
GET YOUR PASTA PASSPORT
For those who simply can’t choose between regions, ALFI’s Pasta Passport offers entry to all five Pasta Month classes at a special discounted price of £200 (saving the price of almost one class – £40)!
One passport. Five classes. Five Italian destinations.
And for anyone who likes a little vino with their pasta, guests can add ALFI’s Pasta & Pour wine pairing on the day, with wines matched to the region and pasta shapes being explored.
Salute!
A LITTLE TASTE OF ITALY IN SPITALFIELDS
Pasta Month is the latest addition to ALFI’s growing calendar of creative experiences. While the independent Italian restaurant may be best known for its handcrafted Neapolitan pizza – made with 36-hour cold-fermented dough and 80% hydration – there’s much more to discover.
Alongside fresh pasta, Italian favourites, seasonal dishes, organic and naturally made wines and its much-loved vino sfuso, ALFI hosts a programme of hands-on experiences including Paint & Sip, Scented Candle Making, Cocktail Making and Sip & Bouquet, giving Londoners plenty of reasons to gather, create and stay awhile.
At ALFI, pasta is about more than what’s on the plate. It’s about taking your time, learning the craft, making something from scratch, sharing it with others and enjoying good food the Italian way
