Bank on a Warming Scottish Treat: ‘Shivery Bite’ Shortbread Pop-Up on Brighton Beach this Bank Holiday
Walker’s Shortbread is bringing a taste of Scottish seaside tradition to Brighton Beach this Bank Holiday Monday, officially launching its brand-new Wee Chunkies shortbread range by serving warm, complimentary treats to beachgoers in need of a post-plunge boost.
With Scottish sea temperatures notoriously chilly year-round, Scots have long mastered the art of braving cold waters and, more importantly, how best to warm up afterwards by enjoying a ‘Shivery Bite’ – sweet snack enjoyed after a cold water swim to warm you up and stop teeth chattering.
To celebrate the launch of Wee Chunkies, a bespoke Walker’s sampling van will travel over 500 miles from Aberlour in the Scottish Highlands – the home of Walker’s Shortbread – to the south coast. Walker’s will serve warmed Wee Chunkies introducing Brighton beachgoers to the quintessential Scottish tradition of a ‘Shivery Bite’.
Following recent heatwave conditions, Bank Holiday weather on the south coast is forecast to bring sunny intervals with a gentle sea breeze – making a warm, sweet treat all the more welcome. Brimming with seaside energy and summer fun, Brighton’s lively promenade provides the perfect setting as the Walker’s sampling van sets up on Bank Holiday Monday, 31st August from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM near the Upside Down House.
Bryony Walker, Commercial Director at Walker’s Shortbread, said: “Given that Scottish lochs and coastal waters are famously chilly, we certainly know a thing or two about post-swim comfort. After a hot summer, a breezy Bank Holiday by the coast is the ideal time to share this Highlands custom.
“We wanted to bring this Scottish tradition to Brighton’s vibrant seafront to launch our brand-new Wee Chunkies and offer sea swimmers and families a warm, delicious treat right when they need it most. They’re great hot or cold, but there’s nothing quite like having them fresh and warm straight from the oven!”
Beachgoers will be treated to ‘Shivery Bite’ portions of the brand-new Wee Chunkies Chocolate & Caramel flavour – bite-sized chunks of all-butter shortbread packed with rich Belgian chocolate, served warm or cold.
Available in two indulgent flavours, Triple Chocolate and Chocolate & Caramel, Wee Chunkies deliver the richness and aroma of baked shortbread from Walker’s ovens in the Scottish Highlands. Wee Chunkies are available to purchase online at Walker’s Shortbread and are now on shelves in Waitrose and Sainsbury’s with an RRP of £2.50.
