Beach clean leads fight against plastic pollution for Darwin Escapes

12 Darwin Escapes employees took to the coast of Cornwall over the weekend to clean more than 18.11 of litter from the shores.

Forming part of a 47-strong team, the staff from Sandymouth Holiday Resort were supported by Treasury Wine Estates, a sub-brand of international beverage giants Molson Coors. Their Coastal Reserve range – a sustainable, premium vegan wine – has already donated over €50,000 to not-for-profit organisation Plastic Oceans Europe.

Two representatives from each of Molson Coors and Plastic Oceans Europe also joined the cleanup efforts, which saw over 18 kilograms of litter – an average of just under 400g per person – removed from the environment.

Scott Hibbard, general manager at Sandymouth Holiday Resort, said: “We’re blessed with a beautiful location in a unique part of the country and it’s so important to us that we address the very real threat our shores are facing.

“It was great for the team to get their hands dirty and do our part to clean the beach, but we must not lose sight of the importance of reducing plastic usage, which is something Darwin Escapes have been working hard to do across the country.”

Darwin Escapes are a leading UK holiday operator with 23 luxurious resorts and a trio of stunning golf courses. Offering lodges for getaways and for purchase as holiday homes, the company is preparing to launch the new Blenheim Palace Lodge Retreat at the historic Blenheim Palace this August.
