Breeze & Alex Spencer win competition to play This Feeling By The Sea

This Feeling By The Sea’s headliners The Royston Club are on fiery form, their new single ‘The Patch Where Nothing Grows’ becoming their hottest moment to date with support from 6 Music (Steve Lamacq), Radio X John Kennedy and Chris Hawkins) and BBC Radio Wales. It follows the phenomenal rise of fellow headliners The K’s earlier this year, first racing in the UK Official Album Chart at #3 and then commanding huge festival crowds at Glastonbury and the Isle of Wight.

Every single band on the This Feeling By The Sea line-up has been supported by the new music champions – and all of the other artists are flying high too. Seb Lowe’s profile continues to skyrocket following killer performances at Glastonbury and TRNSMT, millions of streams, acclaim from Rolling Stone and now his biggest headline tour to date; Pastel built upon their big stage experience with Liam Gallagher by earning a rapturous reception at TRNSMT, while their big anthem ‘Deeper Than Holy’ is now being rediscovered as they continue to work on their debut album; and The Clause have seen phenomenal demand for tickets for their autumn headline tour as they prepare to unleash their best music to date in the shape of the upcoming ‘Weekend Millionaire’ EP.

The Royston Club’s Tom Faithfull (vocals/guitar) says, “We’re buzzing to play By The Sea this year. This Feeling promoted one of our first ever shows at a small venue in Rhyl, North Wales, so it’s a nice moment to go from that to headlining By The Sea.”

The K’s guitarist Ryan Breslin adds “It’s an honour to be asked to headline This Feeling By The Sea. We started out with This Feeling doing our first gigs on the circuit and to now be headlining their festival is class.”

It will be a special moment for This Feeling founder Mikey Jonns too: “To come together By The Sea in such a magnificent, iconic venue with some of our favourite bands, with many of the This Feeling community, is a shared dream come true.

Every act on the line-up started off playing grassroots venues with This Feeling, which not only highlights the importance of these venues but also the journey we are on with acts we’ve loved right from the start. This must be the only festival where every single artist on the bill started off by playing small capacity venues with the same promoter – and so many fans have stayed with those bands from their first shows to where they are today. It’s 100% real and makes for an atmosphere that’s pure magic!”

As this year’s spectacular This Feeling By The Sea weekender approaches, the rock ‘n’ roll tastemakers now reveal details of the winners of their immensely popular Apply To Play competition. After shifting through thousands of entries, John Kennedy (Radio X) has chosen Alex Spencer as the national winner, while Jericho Keys (BBC Introducing) has crowned Breeze as the champions from the Yorkshire region.

The two winners join an absolutely stack line-up of leading and next wave talent. This is their once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play a beautiful venue in a hopefully sun-kissed location to a community of music lovers from across the country.

Hull trio Breeze have so far only released six tracks, but the band-of-brothers have already demonstrated that they excel across the alternative spectrum: from perky Britpop to gritty grunge and emotional, cinematic balladeering. Set to open the festivals on Friday afternoon, Breeze are sure to show that they’re destined for bigger things with highlights such as ‘Shoot It Down’ and ‘Stay Young With You’.

Jericho Keys says, “As soon as the needle hit the groove on those Breeze tunes I immediately envisioned these lads on the stage in Brid. Last year proved that punters who come to By The Sea have an appetite for the best new music and songs that stick in your head from the get-go. Get ‘Shoot It Down’ and ‘Stay Young With You’ turned up and welcome some solid gold earworms to your senses.”
