BRIGHTON ASDA BANK HOLIDAY STRIKE ACTION SUSPENDED AFTER LAST MINUTE OFFER

Members at the Hollingbury superstore set to strike over the weekend have suspended action to consider an offer from ASDA

Members of GMB, the union for Asda, have this morning suspended their strike action planned for this weekend.

Following on from strike action which took place over Whitsun Bank Holiday at the end of May, more than 100 members in store were due to strike from 10pm tomorrow [Friday 23 August] to 10pm on Saturday [24 August].

Previous talks before the first strike date had failed to result in any agreement between GMB and ASDA, but the employer has made a last-minute offer which will be discussed next week.

Lib Whitfield, GMB Senior Organiser said:

“Our members in Asda Hollingbury were set to strike tomorrow for 24 hours in a dispute for better working conditions and more hours within the store.

“After the last talks failed, our members had no option but to continue their action again this weekend, however a last-minute offer has been made and we have agreed to suspend our strike action.

“GMB representatives will now meet with ASDA managers to confirm the details of the proposal and then consult our members on this offer.

“It is ultimately our members who will decide if the offer is sufficient to end the dispute and the strike mandate remains live and active if they are not satisfied.”
