Christmas at Dunham Massey boasts host of new features for 2023

A family tradition in the festive calendar returns to the North West with spectacular new additions which will wow those who experience the 2023 trail.

Christmas at Dunham Massey will return for its seventh year between 17 November and 31 December, with a host of new illuminations at the iconic National Trust property in Altrincham.

Be sure to buy a ticket because public demand is high, with funds raised helping to preserve the majesty and history of Dunham Massey.

Georgina Lofthouse, General Manager of Dunham Massey, said: “The plans for this year are really exciting. The opportunity to see the Georgian house, gardens and deer park in glorious seasonal sparkle is always special, but I’m particularly excited about 2023. I’m happy to see the giant illuminated deer returning, too!

“Every ticket sold supports the National Trust to look after this special place for everyone to enjoy, from caring for the roaming fallow deer to ensuring the longevity of the historic collection in the house.”

New features include Herbum by TILT, a large-scale sculpture that evokes a tuft of wild glowing grass with its red and green strands and vibrant blue tips flaring up like a volcanic eruption.

Another new feature is Mycelium, by Stevie Thompson of Custom Fibre Optics.

Stevie explained the origins of the idea: “Apart from being completely obsessed and passionate about fibre optic lighting, I’m also very interested and inspired by mushrooms too, with their magical and medicinal properties. So it was the perfect opportunity to collaborate both of my hobbies into a work of art.”

Other illuminations include three innovations from UK-based technical and creative studio ArtAV – Pixel Banners, Star Arch Walk and Pixel Tree.
Discover Studio Vertigo’s huge silver star, Nova, shrouded in mist as if just fallen from the sky; and Aether and Hemera’s Voyage, a flotilla of hundreds of colour-changing, floating origami folded boats.

Christmas at Dunham Massey is full of seasonal surprises and shimmering reflections that cast light on beautiful silhouettes of majestic trees, all choreographed to a soundtrack of festive favourites. There will also be a magical glimpse of Father Christmas along the way.

Along the trail, independent street food vendors bring a delicious twist with tasty treats on offer. Complete your walk under the stars with a *spiced winter warmer or hot chocolate shared with friends and family.

Everyone loves toasting a marshmallow over an open fire and the artisan *marshmallow stall gives visitors the chance to warm their hands and enjoy this sweet outdoor tradition.
