Data Reveals The Needles Is The Most ‘Instagrammed’ Isle of Wight Attraction

According to recent research from luxury holiday park operator, Away Resorts, The Needles in Alum Bay, is the most “Instagrammable” location on the Isle of Wight, more so than any other attraction on the island.

The 30-metre-high stacks of chalk on the island’s most westerly point have been tagged a staggering 23,873 times – a whopping 17,100 times more than the second most hashtagged location.

The Isle of Wight boasts the UK’s oldest amusement park, Blackgang Chine and the world’s only commercial hovercraft route; however, these spots did not make first position.

Blackgang Chine in Ventnor, came in as the second most “Instagrammed” attraction and Carisbrooke Castle, an Elizabethan Artillery fortress, is the third most “Instagrammed” tourist attraction on the island.

Ryde Has the Most Instagrammable Spots in the Top 20

Even though Newport is the capital of the Isle of Wight, Ryde has the most “Instagrammed” places in the top 20, suggesting this seaside town is a favourite amongst tourists looking for the perfect social media snap.

Away Resorts, who operate a holiday park on the island at Whitecliff Bay in Bembridge, said “The Isle of Wight is a unique location off of the mainland and we have seen the number of holidaymakers to our holiday park grow each year.

“Visitors often ask for advice on where to go during their break and a large proportion of our employees at Whitecliff Bay are island residents, so have a lot of local knowledge”.

Away Resorts has put together an interactive infographic which visualises the top 20 attractions on the island based upon the number of hashtags they have received. You can view the top 20 here.
