Dutch ‘Couch Couture’ brand is coming for the UK

Boxer shorts with pockets, pyjama trousers, djellaba’s, pocket socks and more: Amsterdam based homewear brand Pockies is coming for the United Kingdom. Their line of loungewear, or ‘Couch Couture’ as they call it, has seen a sharp rise in popularity lately. “People are spending more time at home and we can provide them with the necessary clothes to keep them comfy,” founder Michiel Dicker says.

Unexpected interest
A pair of socks to Westcliff-on-Sea, a week’s supply of boxer shorts to Ledbury and three pairs of lounge trousers to London; a small sample of the orders that are being shipped to the United Kingdom this day. The interest across the channel is new for Pockies: “We’ve shipped our products in the Netherlands for over five years now, but this interest from the UK came quite unexpectedly,” says Dicker. “We see more and more order coming each day!” The increase is easily explained, with people being at home due to the lockdown more people are looking for loungewear to spend their days in comfort.

Couch
It all started in 2015 when Dicker was on the couch, in his ‘regular’ underwear, with no place to put his phone. “Wouldn’t it be nice if these boxer shorts had pockets,” he thought out loud. Friends and co-founders Rob ten Hove and Karel Bosman jumped up and said: “Dude, this is it! Let’s do this!” And so an adventure began.

The three put all their savings together and ordered the first batch of Pockies. Two thousand pieces. “Those were exciting times. We were either going to sell, or be stuck with a truckload of underwear for the rest of our lives.” Dicker says. Friends were asked to model, the website was built by themselves. The first batch was sold within 3 weeks.

Pocket Mayonaise
Since then the company has expanded its range of products with women’s pyjama shorts, pyjama trousers, pocket socks, djellaba’s and more comfort enhancing apparel. The goal? To make everyone’s time on the couch as comfortable as possible. With that mission in mind, the dutch company even stepped beyond the boundaries of clothing: “Last year we collaborated with a famous Dutch Mayonnaise manufacturer to create our very own pocket sized mayonnaise. This way you always have your favorite condiment on hand,” Dicker says.

About Pockies
Pockies started in 2015 as a joke between three students. One of the founders (Michiel Dicker) was lying on the couch in ‘regular’ boxer shorts. Nowhere to put his phone he thought out loud: “Why don’t boxer shorts have pockets?” The other two owners (Karel Bosman and Rob ten Hoove) thought it was a good idea and a business was born.
Pockies has sold over 350.000 products and is always looking for new ways to improve comfort on the couch.
