EAMONN Holmes paid tribute this morning to the late Paul O’Grady, describing him as a “true national treasure”.

The GB News presenter said: “There were so many different re-incarnations of her, whether it was Lily Savage, whether it was the animal advocate as well.

“I remember 30 odd years ago, waking up on a morning and switching on the telly, to see Lily Savage sitting on Richard and Judy and saying, ‘as for that Eamonn Holmes, he should be sacked, he’s ridiculous, did you ever give him a job?’

“He was so sharp, especially as Lily.”

Eamonn added: “There was a realness about him. He was always a delight to meet and the best conversations with them were off camera.

“He was a real person that he was able to tap into on behalf of the viewers and listeners

“Today we mourn his loss, but we also mourn the loss of a true national treasure.”
