Electrical engineer Armelle Boisset receives an honorary doctorate from UWL
The University of West London (UWL) has awarded Director of Systems and Engineering for the Spectrum Group at Ofcom Armelle Boisset a Honorary Doctor of Science for her collaboration with faculty and students at its School of Computing and Engineering (SCE).
As well as leading teams conducting radiofrequency modelling and measurements, Armelle develops spectrum management system platforms. During her previous career in industry, she worked for international telecommunications companies including Nortel, Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia and Kapsch, working in operational support, new product introduction and network rollout, as well as holding programme management and senior leadership roles.
Armelle, who studied electrical engineering at McGill University in Canada, is very much committed to furthering science and technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) engagement and promoting careers in STEM for future generations.
“Through her career, Armelle has been a mentor and role model, especially for young female engineers,” said Associate Professor in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at SCE Dr Nagham Saeed as she presented Armelle with her award.
“She has consistently promoted STEM education, engaging with local schools, and championed the cause of diversity in engineering. Her efforts have been instrumental in inspiring the next generation of engineers and contributing to a more inclusive industry.”
As she thanked the University for her award, Armelle said, “I want to particularly commend the women engineers and computer scientists, we are too few still and there is a great need in our present society for more engineers and technically skilled people so that the wider reach we can get, the better.”
“And to the male engineers and graduands I would say – be good allies to your female counterparts, and always remember that the best solutions are achieved by teamwork and by a range of perspectives.”
A member of UWL’s Industry Consultative Committee for Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Sound Engineering, Armelle is a trustee of charities Berkshire Youth and Electrical Safety First. She is also a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), an organisation that aims to inform, inspire, and influence the global engineering community to create a better world.
