Exploring London this Christmas
With the festive season in full swing, you may be considering heading to the capital to get in the Christmas spirit. Luckily, trains to London Kings Cross run from stations all over the country so you can easily visit London during the most wonderful time of the year!
Go ice skating
During the Christmas period, London has a range of ice skating rinks for you to flaunt your skills on. If you visit Glide at Battersea Power Station you will find an ice rink as well as fairground rides for those who aren’t huge fans of skating. Another good choice would be the ice rink at the Natural History Museum which gives you a gorgeous view of the historic building, along with a 30ft Christmas tree and plenty of cafes serving hot chocolate so that you can warm yourself up afterwards!
Visit Kew Gardens
Kew Gardens has a stunning 2-kilometre winter trail adorned with around one million twinkling lights, so visiting the light and sound displays held there is sure to get you in the Christmas spirit. This year you will find a fire garden with mesmerising flickering flames as well as larger-than-life illuminations and Santa Claus will be there too! There are also vintage fairground rides and plenty of snacks and hot chocolate to enjoy as you make your way around.
Explore Christmas markets
England’s capital is home to many a Christmas market during the festive period and you are sure to find one that you enjoy. One of the top recommendations is the Southbank Christmas market which has plenty of stalls selling handmade gifts and treats for you to enjoy. Most stalls are open until 10 pm each day which is perfect if you are looking to end your busy day strolling around a seasonal wonderland filled with cosy alpine lodges.
Head to Winter Wonderland
With Winter Wonderland celebrating its 15th anniversary, this really is one of the best things to do in London over Christmas. Here you will find over 100 rides, live shows and circus acts as well as festive markets, bars and restaurants making it suitable for family trips and date nights! It is always a good idea to book tickets in advance if you plan on going as, understandably, Winter Wonderland is very popular with locals and tourists alike.
Watch a Christmas film
We all love a Christmas film and, during the festive period, Luna Drive-In Cinemas offer you the opportunity to watch them from the comfort of your own car. They also offer the opportunity to cosy up indoors at Kensington Palace where you can watch some of the best Christmas films including Elf and Love Actually as well as a sing-a-long of The Greatest Showman this December!
