FORMER BBC presenter Kate Silverton has praised the work Kate Middleton is doing to shine a spotlight on children’s mental health.
The mother-of-two retrained as a child therapist with Place2Be, the children’s mental health charity of which Kate is royal patron.
And during lockdown, she released her Sunday Times Best Seller, There’s No Such Thing As Naughty.
In an interview with Esther McVey and Philip Davies, Kate told GB News: “She’s wonderful. She’s absolutely passionate. What she does is shine this incredible spotlight, and she’s passionate about science and she really does care. And I think that’s really important for people to know, that she’s serious about this and it’s going to be a long term campaign. Everyone is absolutely thrilled because we’re all on this journey with her.”
Describing why she’d moved into the counselling profession, the ex prime time news reader continued: “I think becoming a mum was what prompted it, because I was lucky enough to have access to all these incredible psychiatrists and neuroscientists, when we first became parents. My husband’s in the military and after six weeks he walked in saying “Oh my God, Why does nobody tell you it’s so hard. It was easier getting my Green Beret!”.
“It really prompted this curiosity of what do we need to know and once you understand the science, it blew my mind. And I wrote the book first of all, because I thought every parent needs to know this. “It’s made my life so much easier.”
Reflecting on her life now she added: “I love my work. I volunteer in a school. I finished my training and I’m working with very vulnerable children and doing very sort of deep therapeutic interventions. “And I absolutely love it and I’m passionate about it, and passionate about this campaign because it aligns with everything. What we experience when we’re very young shapes the adults we become. It is absolutely fundamental in terms of our future resilience in terms of our future mental health. That’s why the Princess’ work is so key.”
