Galliard Homes & Acorn Property Group announce multiple sales successes at Hope House in Bath

Galliard Homes and Acorn Property Group are pleased to announce multiple sales successes at Hope House, Bath, following the ease of lockdown restrictions. The magnificent Georgian mansion, transformed into 58 refurbished and newly-built apartments and townhouses, has achieved multiple sales in the last four weeks, with buyers attracted to the development’s unique location offering landscaped gardens and countryside views as well as being just moments from the city centre and connections into London.

In recent weeks, a total of ten sales have been agreed covering a range of properties including a Park Row townhouse, to a mixture of buyers including downsizers, first-time buyers and those buying second homes.

Using a combination of extensive virtual tours as well as COVID-Compliant in-person viewings, the scheme is now almost 70% sold overall, with the one-bedroom homes sold out. The developers highlight that buyers are drawn to the development’s location offering easy access to Bath’s vibrant city centre, as well as the gardens and views offering a tranquil setting to live in.

The three-year restoration of Hope House brings residential life back to the scheme, which has an illustrious history and is set in six acres with a mixture of landscaped formal gardens and informal parkland. There is also a residents-only tennis court, bat hotel, seating and mature trees for residents to enjoy.

Hope House was originally the mansion of Hon. Charles Hamilton, the son of the 6th Earl of Abercorn, as a grand residential home built in 1781. Later, between 1924-26 Hope House underwent major alterations prior to reopening in 1926 as Bath High School, where chef Mary Berry CBE later learned to cook as a student.

The transformation of Hope House was undertaken in partnership with heritage specialists Nash Partnership, with specification by award winning design house Lambart & Browne and landscaping by Matthew Wigan Associates. Led by contractor JJ Rhatigan, the scheme completed in 2019, with the first residents now enjoying the lifestyle on offer.

The Georgian mansion now provides seven luxurious two and four bedroom apartments overlooking the scheme’s formal lawn and parkland beyond. All the apartments have double reception rooms, designer kitchens and master bedroom suites with walk-in dressing rooms and master bathrooms. Other features include generous ceiling heights, up to 3.6 metres high, and original doors, with a show apartment by Lambart & Browne.

Next to the restored mansion is Park Row, an elegant terrace of four stunning three and four bedroom townhouses with the show townhouse styled by Andrew Henry Interiors. The townhouses have a ground floor family room with open plan kitchen and dining room (which you can furnish with modern sofas from places like SofaClub), a first floor living room opening onto private terrace, with bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms, on the upper floors.

Lining the new entrance road to the scheme are two terraces, the first providing six, classic three bedroom townhouses – the Hope Place Townhouses, of which a new show home has recently opened – with the second terrace providing a collection of 20 one and two bedroom apartments, called the Hope Place Apartments, some opening onto outside terraces. The Hope Place Apartments continues across a newly-built building designed as a sister to the original mansion, providing the remaining 17 apartments. Honey-coloured Bath Stone, sash windows, quality paving and handcrafted metalwork have been incorporated into the new build elements of the scheme, enabling them to compliment the listed mansion.

Robin Squire, Regional Managing Director for Acorn Property Group’s Bristol Office commented: “We are delighted with the recent sales success at Hope House and buyer enthusiasm for such a thoughtful scheme. The scheme allows buyers to have both the best of city-centre living, located so close to Bath’s centre, and countryside, with the scheme’s landscaped gardens and parkland and views of the Somerset countryside”.

David Galman, Sales Director at Galliard Homes commented: “Since the initial launch, Hope House has been a very popular scheme with buyers appreciating the balance of historic details and elegant new-build homes. Following the easing of lockdown restrictions, we have been delighted with an influx of sales as people search for homes with communal gardens and access to outside space. Hope House’s location offers the buyers access to all the culture of the city, with the countryside on your doorstep, truly the best of both worlds.”

Prices at Hope House currently range from £795,000 (for a two bedroom apartment) to £2,350,000 (for a 4 bedroom apartment).
