Government is wrong not to appoint a dedicated Minister for Disabled People

Following the news from Downing Street today that the Prime Minister will not be replacing the dedicated role of Minister for Disabled People and that it will now pass responsibilities to Mims Davies MP, a minister at the Department of Work and Pensions who will be sharing this with her youth portfolio, Spinal Injuries Association made this statement:

“It is appalling that the Government has decided not to appoint a dedicated minister for disabled people in the recent reshuffle. At a time when disabled people, including people with spinal cord injuries have already been hit hard by cuts to social care, the cost-of-living crisis and the changes announced to fit to work tests, it is even more important that disabled people’s interests are represented. Giving the role to someone who already has other responsibilities is a strong message to the almost 16 million disabled people in the country, that the Government just does not care.”
