As autumn colours sweep across the Shropshire Hills, CPRE Shropshire is inviting the public to step into the heart of the landscape and celebrate the hedgerows that connect its farms, wildlife and communities.
Taking place at Acton Scott Heritage Farm on 24-25 October 2026, Hedgerows in the Hills is a special centenary event featuring guided walks, expert talks, traditional countryside demonstrations, performances and activities for children.
Held as part of CPRE’s centenary year, the event will showcase the beauty, history and environmental value of hedgerows and the Shropshire biodiversity through a packed programme of walks, talks about the wider rural landscape past and future, demonstrations, performances and hands-on activities for all ages.
The event will highlight the patchwork beauty of Shropshire’s countryside, its wildlife and biodiversity, and the importance to preserve it to ensure a thriving future. A key tool being hedgerows that help store carbon, reduce soil erosion, support pollinators and provide shelter for livestock.
Visitors will have the opportunity to learn from local experts, explore the landscape around Acton Scott, discover the wildlife and local biodiversity, and take part in family-friendly activities, including the Big Hedge Hunt. Under-16s can attend free of charge.

Sarah Jameson, CPRE Shropshire’s manager, said:
“We wanted to mark not only CPRE’s Centenary year but the sixth year of our Hedgerow Heroes project, so what better way to do this than a celebration of the Shropshire countryside and the hedgerows that criss cross it?. Hedgerows in the Hills is a family-friendly event with something for everyone – from expert talks on hedgerows, rivers and ancient trees to demonstrations on spoon and chair carving, and from paintings to poetry?”
