Kilburn welcomes London’s newest Tesco
Tesco colleagues have spent the morning welcoming excited customers to the retailer’s latest London store in West Kilburn.
A crowd of excited shoppers were waiting outside the new West Kilburn Express ahead of the store’s grand opening at 10am, with store colleagues eager to welcome people inside for the first time.
The store is located at 425 Harrow Road, a short walk from Westbourne Park tube station, and is well placed to serve the surrounding residential area.
Among the features on offer at the new store are a wide range of food-to-go options, a bakery section, Costa Coffee, an InPost locker service and an ATM.
Store Manager Sham Ahmed said: “We have had lots of welcome messages from neighbours who are excited for the store to open and to have a brand-new Tesco Express store on their doorstep. We can’t wait to meet the local community properly and start serving them day to day.
“This is my second time opening a brand-new Tesco store and they are always fantastic occasions. I am also looking forward to seeing the new team of colleagues we’ve assembled grow and thrive at this new store.”
Local schools and youth groups supporting the development of young people are being invited to apply for community funding through Tesco’s Stronger Starts scheme, the retailer’s blue token voting initiative which sees three local projects voted on by customers in store every three months, with first place awarded up to £1,500, second place up to £1,000 and third place up to £500.
The new Express store is also participating in the Community Food Connection scheme, which redistributes surplus food to charities and community groups from every Tesco store at the end of each day.
Since its launch in 2016, the Tesco Community Food Connection Scheme has donated more than 145 million meals to charities across the UK.
This scheme is run in partnership with food redistribution charity FareShare. Each month more than one million meals’ worth of food are donated across the country.
