LABOUR PARTY “LISTENING TO WORKING PEOPLE” ON SHIPBUILDING

30 year pipeline of work exactly what critical manufacturing base needs to provide good jobs in Scotland and across the UK.

Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves visited the Rosyth dockyard with GMB General Secretary Gary Smith.

The pair met with GMB reps as well as touring the workplace to meet workers and Babcock.

Gary Smith, GMB General Secretary, said:

“Decades of running down our critical defence manufacturing base has denied Scotland a sustainable cycle of apprenticeships, skills and investment.

“GMB has long campaigned for a 30-year pipeline of work for publicly funded vessels to be built in the UK to give manufacturers the certainty to invest. It is good to see the Labour Party are listening to working people.

“Defence manufacturing jobs are good quality union jobs, and we need more of them.”
