Leeds based children’s cancer charity receives £2,500 donation

Leeds based children’s cancer charity, Candlelighters has received a £2,500 donation ahead of the festive period, from 5 star Homebuilder Barratt Developments Yorkshire West.

Based in Leeds and operating across the Yorkshire region, Candlelighters work to support children facing cancer and their families and help to fund vital, life-changing research. In 1992, the charity opened the Candlelighters Children’s Cancer Research Laboratory, which has since gained an international reputation. They also run a family support centre, located close to Leeds Children’s Hospital, which hosts a wide range of support services. These services include therapies, wellbeing sessions, and peer support groups, where families can connect with others.

Candlelighters is Barratt Developments Yorkshire West’s charity of the year, and this donation is a continuation of its support. Barratt Developments Yorkshire West has donated over £36,500 to support children with cancer and their families since they partnered with Candlelighters in 2018. This has been raised through a range of activities which include further donate a day activities and sponsored marathons. Barratt Developments Yorkshire West’s support will help ensure families receive whatever help they need, from activities on the wards to talking therapy, wellbeing, holidays, financial support and more.

This latest donation will help Candlelighters to host their first Christmas party since 2019. After being impacted by the pandemic, the party is an exciting chance for children and family members to have fun and make new memories. Over 400 children and family members will be able to attend in total, and the event will be a chance to escape from the day-to-day reality of childhood cancer. It costs £25 for a place at the Christmas party and Barratt’s donation could fund 100 places for children and families.

Ian Ruthven, Managing Director of Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, said: “We are delighted to be able to support Candlelighters with this donation, especially during the festive period. They’re a wonderful charity that are driven by their values, and work all year round to support families, improve treatment, and to find cures.”

Emily Wragg, CEO at Candlelighters, commented: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Barratt Developments Yorkshire West for their support again this year. Your generosity will bring a smile to the faces of many children from across the region and provide them and their families with a magical Christmas.”
