Local home builder partners with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust to support local wildlife in Silsden

Local homebuilder, Barratt Developments Yorkshire West has partnered with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust to support and care for local wildlife and wild places at its Saxon Dene development in Silsden.

As part of the Wildlife Warden initiative, The Trust will hold six community workshops that will raise awareness of wildlife and wild places in the local area with the help of a new wildlife warden. Residents will learn how and be inspired to create havens for wildlife in their gardens including birds, hedgehogs and wild flowers for bees and butterflies.

The first activity will be on Wednesday, October 27 from 10am – 12pm, taking place outside the Sales Office at Saxon Dene, and will include autumnal art activities and a scavenger hunt for residents to learn more about the signs of autumn in nature.

Sarah Robinson, Corporate Partnerships Officer at Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, said: “UK gardens provide more space for wildlife than all nature reserves combined – encouraging people to make their gardens wildlife friendly is vital to protect precious species like hedgehogs and bees and is great for our health and wellbeing too. We are pleased to be working with Barratt Developments Yorkshire West to encourage more people to have a stronger connection to nature and to protect the wildlife on their doorstep.”

Ian Ruthven, Managing Director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, added: “We are really looking forward to working with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust to encourage people to connect with nature and care for local wildlife in our communities.”

“We are committed to being a responsible and sustainable home builder that protects the local nature and wildlife in the communities in which we build and we want to empower home owners to turn their gardens into havens for wildlife that protects local species and nature. This will not only benefit local wildlife in our communities but also promote positive health and wellbeing.”

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust has 100 nature reserves across Yorkshire and works on dozens of partnership projects with communities, businesses and organisations to ensure more of Yorkshire is rich in wildlife and wild places. The Trust is committed to creating a Yorkshire rich of wildlife across land and sea for everyone.
