MERRY CRUSTMAS: 7 IN 10 LONDONERS WOULD HAVE PIE WITH THEIR CHRISTMAS DINNER
Barmy Brits have revealed their controversial Christmas dinner choices – including pie, mac & cheese and baked beans.
The study of 2,000 people by iconic pie-in-a-tin brand Fray Bentos revealed a third have rice or salad on their Christmas dinner, while curry sauce, mayonnaise and coleslaw were among the controversial condiments and side dishes.
Meanwhile, when asked specifically if they’d add pie to their festive dinner menu, some 71% of Londoners said they would, compared to just 51% of Mancs.
It comes as Fray Bentos teamed up with social media sensation Big John Fisher.
Big John, championed for viral fast-food reviews to his 690,000 Instagram fans, said: “I love the Fray Bentos Christmas pie.
“A lot of people don’t like cooking or the time it takes – but you can whack this in the oven and it’s ready to eat in 30 minutes, and very nice. Bosh!”
Big John, also known as The Boshfather, revealed his Christmas dinner menu with all the trimmings.
He added: “My wife makes a lovely Christmas dinner.
“I love a traditional turkey and roast beef with parsnips, cabbage, peas, accompanied by a tasty Yorkshire pudding on the side, with profiteroles, Christmas pudding and cheese and biscuits for afters.
Jude Smart, Brand Manager at Fray Bentos, said: “Christmas is a time to come together, but when it comes to festive food, this dinner study shows the nation is anything but united!
“Our new Festive Turkey pie will tickle their tastebuds offering a quick, tasty and hassle free meal that won’t break the bank.
“At its heart, Christmas is about comfort, tradition and hearty meals, and our new pie delivers all three. It captures the classic flavours of Christmas dinner in a way that’s simple, satisfying and unmistakably Fray Bentos.
“Wrapped up in 64 layers of golden puff pastry, it’s proper food with a seasonal twist, and it’s ready when you are. Fray Bentos pies have been a family favourite for generations, a guilty pleasure for some and a true British icon.”
