MILITARY TANK TO BE INSTALLED FOR REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMEMORATIONS IN ALDERSHOT

The installation of an M8 Scout Car armoured tank will signify the beginning of this year’s Remembrance Day commemorations at Bruneval Gardens in Aldershot, Hampshire. Housebuilders Barratt David Wilson Homes will host the authentic tank next to the Barratt Sales & Marketing Suite on Pennefather’s Road next Saturday 6th November.

The M8 Scout Car is one of the most recognisable vehicles from the World Wars, used predominantly in WWII to collect intelligence due to its speed, hence its nickname ‘Greyhound’. To explain more about the tank, a historical expert from the Armourgeddon Military Museum has been invited to deliver three dedicated family-friendly talks throughout the day, taking place at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Each session will detail the tank’s history and its role in the World Wars.

Kimberly Benson, Sales and Marketing Director for Barratt Southern Counties, comments: “We are very excited to have the tank on-site for the day at Bruneval Gardens and look forward to seeing the local community come out and interact with it. We hope it will help commemorate this year’s Remembrance Day and provide important historical lessons to families in the area. We also extend our thanks to Dave at the Armourgeddon Military Museum for giving up his time, and we look forward to the talks that will be given on both the tank and the World Wars.”

Families are encouraged to attend the talks to learn more about local history, and to share their photos with the tank on social media using the hashtag #BDWtank. The housebuilders have also organised for poppies to line the development’s streets along lampposts, which will remain in place beyond the day’s events.

Campbell Gregg, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “Celebrating the local history of Aldershot is of great importance to us and we’re delighted to be hosting this event at our Bruneval Gardens development. Remembrance Day is a poignant time of year for many people and, with poppies proudly displayed on the lampposts of the community, we’ll be thinking of those who made great sacrifices over the years and their loved ones.”

Bruneval Gardens sits on the site of the former British army barracks, and offers a collection of one and two-bedroom apartments alongside four-bedroom family homes. Prices start from £214,995 for a one-bedroom apartment available through Barratt Southern Counties, and from £230,000 for a one-bedroom apartment with David Wilson Southern.
