M&S ANNOUNCES THE RE-OPENING OF 25 CLOTHING-ONLY OUTLETS

M&S is today confirming its plan to open all of its 25 Outlet stores in England from Monday. These shops (which don’t include a Foodhall) sell M&S clothing at discounted prices alongside everyday basic items and have therefore been closed with all other non-essential retail. M&S has already confirmed its plans to re-open the clothing space in its stores that sell both Clothing & Food – M&S has 260 of these stores.

M&S has been operating Outlet stores since 2000, many of them are located in popular Outlet Shopping Centres such as Portsmouth’s Gunwharf Quays and Urban Exchange Manchester. These stores sell M&S clothing at up to 50% off (and more) and are popular with M&S customers. They are an important part of how M&S manages stock year-round*.

Ahead of the reopening on Monday M&S Outlet colleagues have returned to the stores from today to ensure the same robust measures are in place that M&S has been operating across Foodhalls. These measures include –

  • WHEN CUSTOMERS ARRIVE: A friendly colleague will manage the flow of customers in and out to maintain social distancing
  • WHEN CUSTOMERS ENTER: Hand sanitiser will be available
  • THROUGHOUT THE SHOP: Shop safely signage and floor markings will be clearly visible to remind everyone to give each other the space they need
  • QUICK & EASY PAYMENT: All M&S tills will have perspex screens installed and clear signage encouraging contactless payments
  • FITTING ROOMS: Fitting rooms will remain closed

Richard Fox, Head of Outlets for M&S said, “Outlet stores are an important way we manage our stock and the products available are popular with customers. Throughout this period M&S Outlets have been shut, but the teams are now back in store and making sure we’re ready to serve from Monday. From managing the flow of customers into the store to perspex screens at till points, customers will find the robust measures from our Foodhalls in place at our Outlets to keep all our customers & colleagues healthy & well.”
