MY DAD CAPTAIN TOM COULDN’T BELIEVE A FILM WAS BEING MADE ABOUT HIS LIFE

THE daughter of Captain Tom Moore says he was astonished when he discovered a film was being made about his life.
Scenes for the movie are currently being filmed and Hannah Ingram Moore told GB News: “When my father was told people wanted to make a film about him he couldn’t believe it. He genuinely couldn’t believe it. He was staggered and had such fun thinking about who would play those in the film but most importantly, what he wanted to know was who was going to play young Tom. And we’re thrilled of course that this is coming to pass and as a family, we just couldn’t be prouder.”
Commenting on the fact the film will take in locations around the world – to portray Tom’s varied military life Ms Moore continued: “He certainly got around in his formative years in the Army, fighting for freedom for all of us in Europe, but most importantly, he was fighting in Burma, fighting the Japanese, and unfortunately, they can’t film on location in Burma. So they’ll be filming in Thailand. It is a film full of love, life, laughter and loss. And finally when they fill in Barbados, it will be because that was the last family holiday we had together which was truly the most magical time together that you have.”
Captain Sir Thomas Moore more popularly known as Captain Tom, was a British Army officer and fundraiser who made international headlines in 2020 when he raised money for charity in the run-up to his 100th birthday during the COVID-19 pandemic. He served in India and the Burma campaign during the Second World War, and later became an instructor in armoured warfare. After the war, he worked as managing director of a concrete company and was an avid motorcycle racer.
On 6 April 2020, at the age of 99, Moore began to walk 100 lengths of his garden in aid of NHS Charities Together, with the goal of raising £1,000 by his 100th birthday on 30 April. In the 24-day course of his fundraising, he made many media appearances and became a popular household name in the UK, earning a number of accolades and attracting over 1.5 million individual donations. In recognition of his efforts, he received the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Helen Rollason Award at the 2020 ceremony. He performed in a cover version of the song “You’ll Never Walk Alone” sung by Michael Ball, with proceeds going to the same charity. The single topped the UK music charts, making him the oldest person to achieve a UK number one.
