New Prince Harry legal bid called ‘very confusing’ by his father’s former butler
Speaking during an interview with Stephen Dixon and Ellie Costello on GB News, Harold Grant said: “It’s very confusing. It’s a rather expensive thing, I should mention, it’s over £100,000 of taxpayer money to fight this.
“He’s on about wanting to teach everyone about how to kind of look after yourselves and…this is the problem – they come under the spotlight because when they start telling us what we should be doing, people start questioning why, why are they spending money on certain things, and this is something that is costing a lot of money.
“I knew him, I mean, I obviously worked for the family, I got on really well with him and it’s really sad to see this turn of events.
“I still don’t understand why they walked away. I’ve been asked that question, especially for the last year. I don’t understand why they walked away, but they have walked away.
“And the reality is, is that’s there’s a real world. When it comes to security, you or I cannot just go to the police and say we want police protection.
“We would have to pay for our own private security and that’s what I think that’s what this argument is about… If he’s visiting one of his family members who are senior members of the royal family, he will get that protection anyway.”
He said: “It’s very sad about his case. Let’s be realistic, the UK, it’s not one of the most dangerous places to be, places basically can be more dangerous.
“This is the kind of thing they’ve got to stop doing because…Royals shouldn’t be having law suits.
“The Queen…has only ever been [involved in] two law suits, which had to do with privacy.”
Mr Grant’s comments come after reports last week revealed Harry had filed filed another lawsuit over the decision not to allow him to pay for police protection when he is in the UK.
The Duke of Sussex began a legal challenge against the Home Office after his taxpayer-funded security was stripped in 2020 when he stepped down as a working royal and moved to California.
He previously said it was unsafe for him to visit the UK and bring his wife Meghan Markle and children Archie and Lilibet without protection provided by the police.
Now, it has emerged that a second lawsuit has now been filed by Harry at the High Court with the Home Office and also the Metropolitan Police as defendants.
