Pancake property values up 57% annually

Pancake house prices up 57% annually to top the stack this Shrove Tuesday

To celebrate the one day a year that Brits rush to eat pancakes, the latest research by estate agent comparison site, GetAgent.co.uk, has revealed which Shrove Tuesday related road names have performed best when it comes to house prices in the last year.

GetAgent analysed sold price records from the Land Registry for property sales on pancake themed roads to see which commands the highest price, as well as those to have seen the largest increase in the last year.

Believe it or not, roads with Pancake in the name rank top where overall property price is concerned, with an average sold price of £972,500. This is by far the highest house price of all pancake related road names, with Milk coming in second at £472,750.

Tuesday (£342,000), Flour (£309,000) and Lent (£295,000) also rank within the top five, while roads with Sugar in the name are far from sweet when it comes to current market values, commanding just £225,500.

Not only does Pancake rank top for overall price, Pancake related road names have also seen the second highest annual increase, up 57% in the last year – that’s a jump of £355,000.

However, it’s Lemon related road names that have seen the largest annual increase at 61%. That’s a £109,250 increase in just 12 months which certainly won’t leave a sour taste in the mouths of homeowners to have benefited.

Flour (+29%) and Milk (+14%) have both enjoyed a healthy jump, while Lent (+2%) and Butter (+1%) related road names have also seen a marginal increase.

Unfortunately for those on roads with Tuesday and Sugar in the name, the average sold price has declined by 12% and 13% respectively on an annual basis.

Co-founder and CEO of GetAgent.co.uk, Colby Short commented:

“Pancakes aren’t quite the breakfast staple here as they are on the other side of the pond, but we certainly have a fleeting love affair with them at least once a year.

So it’s quite fitting that this Pancake Day, roads with pancake in the name not only command the highest price, but have also seen a flipping big increase in property values over the last year.

It’s not as sweet a story for those living on roads with sugar in the name though, as it seems it not only rots your teeth, but will also rot away at the value of your home.”
