Peak Performance From Dandara Northern Home Counties Staff As They Hike To Raise Funds For Young People

Two teams of six staff from Dandara’s Northern Home Counties division, which has offices in Milton Keynes, will be polishing up their walking boots ready to face the rigours of the Brecon Beacons Challenge – climbing 10 Welsh mountains in just 10 hours on 9th July.

The teams, ‘Peaked Too Early’ and ‘Peaky Blinders’, will join with other groups from the country’s major housebuilders and construction firms in the Housebuilders Challenge, organised by the Youth Adventure Trust. Teams of four to six people from each company will race against the clock and each other to complete the 34km hike, which includes 1,695km – just over a mile – of vertical ascent, within the 10-hour timescale.

Trevor Dempsey, Managing Director at Dandara Northern Home Counties, commented: “I’m so proud of our staff for volunteering to take on this incredibly tough challenge – climbing one peak is hard enough, but pushing to the top of 10 of them, including Pen Y Fan, the highest peak in South Wales, will certainly be a test of their endurance.”

Each team in the Housebuilders Challenge has pledged to raise at least £2,000 to support the Youth Adventure Trust. The charity helps vulnerable young people aged 11-16 unlock their potential through outdoor activities; its Youth Adventure Programme, which spans three years and includes three residential camps and eight activity days, is a genuinely life-changing opportunity, giving young people the chance to build resilience, develop confidence and learn skills that will last a lifetime.

The charity has helped nearly 4,000 young people since it started in 1992, but with no Government support, it relies on sponsors to provide the £3,600 that it costs to support each young person through the programme.

“All our team members are lovers of the great outdoors, and appreciate how a challenge such as this one can bring out the best in people,” says Trevor. “They are thrilled that this exciting challenge in the amazing Welsh scenery will help provide adventures for young people that will set them on the right track for life.”
