THERE needs to be political will in the UK if it is to emulate the USA and drive down illegal migration, according to former White House press secretary Sean Spicer.

He spoke to GB News after it was announced that two million people have been deported from the USA so far under President Trump.

Spicer said, during The Late Show Live on GB News: “When someone comes into this country illegally, they’re breaking our laws. We are a nation of laws, and so when you choose to break those, it doesn’t set a very good precedent for why you came to America in the first place.

“But what Tom Holman and those folks are doing is they’re targeting criminals. And in the process, I’ve talked to Tom about this, if they see someone who’s not here, they’re not just letting them go. They’re saying, we’re going to round up anybody that’s with them, that’s in the country illegally.

“That’s making the country safer. It’s also making sure that we keep drugs out, traffickers out, but also that we maintain a rule of law and that we maintain jobs for Americans that are in this country legally.”

Asked about the situation in the UK, Spicer said: “You have to make a decision about whether or not you prioritise the borders of your country. Donald Trump says this all the time. It’s common sense.

“It’s not right versus left, Republican versus Democrat, conservative versus liberal. The question is, do you think that borders are necessary for your country?

“Because what makes Britain, Britain and France, France and Spain, is a border, and what makes us unique from Mexico or Canada is a border, a northern border and a southern border. As soon as you don’t acknowledge those borders anymore and people can come in at will, then you’re not a country.

“That’s what Donald Trump prioritised and put it very clearly in terms of the senior folks, and all the way down to the agents on the ground, saying, ‘you will now protect our country’. You will make sure that people who are in the country legally are here, that if they’re not here, that they’re deported.

“And the two things – it’s not just the policy, but it’s the message. What Joe Biden did was he sent a big magnet up and said, If you come to America illegally, we’ll then reward you. We’ll give you a hotel room, a gift card, a phone. So why wouldn’t you come?

“It made sense for people to come legally. What Donald Trump has done is not just [change] those policies, but made it very clear that if you come, we will send you back and we’ll send you back quickly.”
