SEAS THE DAY! HOMEBUILDER HELPS TO CLEAN NORFOLK BEACHES

Employees at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Cambridgeshire recently got stuck into a day of volunteering with Norfolk Beach Cleans.

Norfolk Beach Cleans is a not-for-profit organisation, founded in January 2021 by Emma Sturman. The group was set up to encourage the county’s community to get involved in group beach cleans.

The charity received an extra 14 pairs of hands from the local developer, with staff members coming from all departments, including the division’s Managing Director, Daniel Evans.

The team walked along the beaches at Hunstanton and Old Hunstanton, and collectively picked up about 44lbs worth of litter.

Emma Sturman, Founder of Norfolk Beach Cleans, said: “It was a pleasure hosting the event for Barratt and David Wilson Homes. The team involved were very enthusiastic about taking part and making a difference to the environment. Their efforts resulted in 20kg (44lbs) of litter removed from the environment, which is a fantastic amount considering most of the pieces were plastic packaging.

“The donation Barratt and David Wilson Homes made in return for the corporate beach clean activity will help me continue the important work I do as a social enterprise (CIC), hosting regular public beach cleans for the Norfolk community to get involved in and raising awareness of plastic pollution in the process”.

Litter picking is not only a great benefit to the environment but it’s also good for boosting physical and mental health and wellbeing.

Daniel Evans, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Cambridgeshire, said: “As a leading housebuilder we strive to support the communities in and around the areas in which we build and were delighted to be able to help Norfolk Beach Cleans with our volunteering day.

“We are proud to have been able to help make a difference at the beaches and keep them litter-free for people to enjoy.”

Barratt Homes is currently building new homes in Norfolk at its Ceres Rise development in Swaffham.
