Squeaky Clean Kitchens: The Nation’s Kitchen Cleaning Habits

With the amount of time, we spent at home during the pandemic and the rise of the “cleaning” influencer, people’s interest in cleaning has exploded. On Instagram the hashtag “#cleaningmotivation” has 618,000 posts and “#cleaninghacks” has 502,000!

Wren Kitchens has surveyed the nation to reveal kitchen cleaning habits to see which kitchen items get cleaned the least and which age group are the most regular cleaners.

The survey asked participants to state the frequency they cleaned the 11 most popular kitchen appliances. The table below shows the amount of people who revealed they have never cleaned certain items.

Kettles come out on top as the least clean kitchen item of the bunch with 11% of people having never given it a scrub. More surprisingly, the humble toaster hasn’t been cleaned by over 3 million Brits!

Another interesting statistic the survey revealed is that 18–24-year-olds are the cleanest age group with over 55’s cleaning the least regularly. On average, 13.6% of youngsters are cleaning their kitchen appliances everyday.

For example, 10% of 18–24-year-olds clean their oven everyday compared to only 4% of over 55’s. This trend is also seen with microwaves where 18% of the youngest age bracket cleaning everyday compared to 13% of the oldest group.
