Study: Is Social Media Bad For Us Really?

There’s been a lot said in the press about the negative influence of social media on our lives, with multiple studies complaining that it’s bad for everything from our self-image to our stress levels. But, as Stanford University claims that there could be some surprising benefits, are there any groups who benefit from Facebook et al?

According to a new study by ‘tech-xperts’ Carphone Warehouse, the answer’s yes, with a recent study of UK consumers finding that:

  • More than half of British people say social media plays a huge role in letting their families keep in contact
  • 36% of 18-24 year olds and 25% of the 55+ say social media has brought their family closer together
  • 2 in 5 Brits claim the internet has given them more to talk about offline, leading to closer relationships
  • 70% of Londoners credit the internet and social media with making their family lives easier

So, next time you’re reaching for your phone for a quick flick through your timeline, don’t berate yourself – you could be about to make someone’s day, or your own!
