SWAFFHAM CANCER CHARITY RECIEVES £1,000 DONATION FROM LOCAL HOMEBUILDER
Swaffham and Litcham Home Hospice Support has received a £1,000 donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes to assist with their work helping those with a cancer diagnosis or those who are in need of palliative care and supporting their carers and families.
The hospice was formed in 1988 with just three volunteers and has grown over the last 33 years to the current team of eight part-time staff members and over 50 volunteers. The charity offers a wide range of support for those who have been given a terminal diagnosis.
The donation from the leading housebuilder will help enhance the charity’s support groups that offer friendship and respite in an understanding and safe environment, and help to provide transport to hospital and GP appointments with a friendly supportive driver. The hospice also provides a formal counselling service and, within this, offers cancer counselling, pre-and-post bereavement counselling.
Wendy Martin, Co-ordinator and Grief Counsellor at Swaffham and Litcham Home Hospice Support, said: “We are so grateful for Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ donation. This donation will go towards helping to continue to provide our services, free of charge, to our patients and clients at what is an incredibly difficult time in their lives.
“The pandemic has been a very challenging and difficult time with the need to adapt to new ways of working, but we have continued to work throughout the whole pandemic in order to provide vital support to our patients, their families and to our counselling clients.
“As local communities continue to develop and increase in size, it places extra demands and pressures on organisations such as ours, so any monetary support we receive is vital and gratefully received.
“On behalf of the hospice, I would like to say a huge thank you to Barratt and David Wilson Homes, and every penny donated will be put to good use within the local community and surrounding villages.”
Asa Chittock, Development Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Cambridgeshire, said: “As a leading housebuilder we strive to support the communities in and around the areas in which we build, and we are delighted to be able to offer Swaffham and Litcham Home Hospice Support a donation to support the fantastic work it does.”
