They analysed every tweet featuring the artist’s name as well as the word ‘Glastonbury’ to find the most talked about performances of the festival.

She was joined on stage by surprise guest Lily Allen to sing “F*** You”, which they dedicated to the Supreme Court justices who ruled in favour of striking down the 50-year-old ruling. Lily Allen, ranked as the second most talked about artist, generating 83,066 tweets over the festival weekend.

Paul McCartney was the third most talked about artist of Glastonbury 2022, with 30,315 tweets regarding the former Beatles front man over the course of the weekend. Many users took to Twitter to comment on the surprising stamina of the 80-year-old popstar, who was joined by guest performances from pop culture icons, Bruce Springsteen and Dave Grohl – both of whom contributed to the social media buzz around the star’s performance.
Billie Eilish was the fourth most popular, with 15,699 tweets talking about the singer throughout the weekend. She was one of several female artists who also used their influence and platform to also talk about women’s rights.

Speaking on the overturning of Roe V. Wade she said: “Today is a really, really dark day for women in the US… I’m just going to say that because I can’t bear to think about it any longer.” Eilish then went on to dedicate her next song to everyone affected by older men who abuse their position of power.

Phoebe Bridgers and Megan Thee Stallion were among the artists who spoke out against the same issues and also featured highly on the list. Megan Thee Stallion spoke of her embarrassment regarding her home state which banned abortion in 2021, and rallied her audience into chanting “my body, my motherf**ckin’ choice” before one of her songs.

A spokesperson for JohnSlots commented on the findings: “The power and influence that many artists hold when it comes to shaping the online conversation, will come as no surprise to many.

“However, the findings show some fascinating insight into younger generations’ engagement with current political discourse, with Twitter being the platform of choice for both pop culture discussion and debates about controversial news topics.”
