May’s unexpected heatwave across the UK brought a significant impact for Adagio Teas iced tea sales – with an 80 percent increase on April’s figures.
The uptake in iced tea sales for the UK subsidiary of the US-based company, came ahead of June’s international iced tea awareness month, which traditionally kick-starts an upturn in iced tea sales.
Stepas Parulis, head of UK and EU operations for Adagio Teas, said: “May was a good month for our iced tea sales, which make up a fraction of our overall tea sales.
“We’re only just moving into the summer and would expect to see an increase in sales over the next three months.
“This would follow the trend as we have seen our iced tea sales grow significantly over the past decade. We originally started with classic varieties but expanded into more visually appealing options in recent years.
“We have also purposely put them into pouches and use natural leaves and fruit which can infuse into the water rather than powders.”
Adagio Teas, known for its quality loose teas, has been in the iced tea sector for 10 years. Its products have evolved and today its range of iced tea options and accessories have enabled the company to distinguish itself from many of its competitors as its iced tea pouches contain a blend of natural herbs, fruits and spices as opposed to the more common powder varieties.
The more popular options in its range include wild strawberry, blue mango and purple papaya berry. It also has peach oolong, citrus mint green iced tea and options in black teas.
It has complemented the range by developing an airtight pitcher that can lie on its side in the fridge.
