Mitie scoops ‘Promoting Diversity Employer of the Year’ award

Mitie’s property management business has won the ‘Promoting Diversity Employer of the Year’ award at the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards 2017.

The awards ceremony, now in its sixteenth year, was held on 16 November at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum in Glasgow and recognises the achievements of individuals and employers involved in apprenticeships.

Mitie was crowned winner of the ‘Promoting Diversity Employer of the Year’ award for its unique employability and employee development initiative, ‘Think Differently’, which aims to support candidates experiencing barriers to employment.

The ‘Think Differently’ scheme, which is part-funded by the Construction Industry Training Board, sees Mitie partner with Remploy, the UK’s leading provider of disability employment services, Geason Training, who deliver training qualifications in the construction industry and the National Autistic Society.

The programme sees around 60 candidates from across the UK take part in training courses and work experience placements over 12 weeks. The candidates, provided by Remploy and the National Autistic Society, are placed in roles suited to their skill-sets, such as painting, joinery and administration, with a view to securing a full-time role.
